A pair of hand thrown mugs created out of white stoneware clay. The overall design is to portray a sense of “abundance” through its continuous curvaceous form. Most mugs have straight lines or angled corners for manufacturing ease. I want the opposite. The curved form allows the eye to wander around the cup which gives it a sense of a warmth and softness that invites you to touch it and hold it in your hand.

The two glazes overlapped here offer soothing balance of a white sandy beach and the blue ocean.

You will find that the looped handles provide a comfortable and secure feel. The loop acts as another person’s finger touching yours. In making pottery, I often use the human proportion as a guide of measurement. There is something very natural when doing it this way.

Both mugs are 3.75 inches tall and holds 10 oz. The one on the right is 4 inches tall and holds 11 oz. Most of my mugs hold between 10~12 ounces of liquid. I feel this is an optimal size when enjoying a cup of tea or coffee.

On the base of the foot, I put an inscription, “Our new chapter.”

The pair of mugs come with an original sumi calligraphy box depicting the scenes from the nearby Soos Creek where my studio resides.
